Why I’m on a Mission to Help Black Families Build Wealth Through Real Estate in Maryland

When I talk about real estate, I’m not just speaking as a Realtor. I’m speaking as a Caribbean woman, a wife, a mother, and someone whose life has been radically changed by the power of ​home ownership.

I was born and raised in Trinidad, and I moved to Washington, D.C. with only $100 U.S. dollars in my pocket, a suitcase, and a heart full of dreams. I came to attend Howard University​, a place that shaped my vision, grounded me in culture and excellence, and taught me that where you start doesn’t determine where you can go.

That belief has carried me through every chapter of my journey.

My path into real estate wasn’t glamorous​, but it was intentional. I started with one small townhome. No inheritance. No shortcuts. Just faith, grit, and a vision.

Over the last 10 years, I’ve used that first home as a stepping stone. I learned how to leverage equity, make smart financial decisions, and reinvest strategically. Today, I not only live in my dream home, but I’ve also built a rental property portfolio that I will pass down to my teenage son​ and, God willing, his children.

This is generational wealth.​ It was not handed to me​. I sacrificed. I studied and I hustled to get here.

And now, I’m committed to showing our people​, especially Black and Caribbean families​, what’s possible.

The racial wealth gap is no secret​ and neither is the fact that Black families have historically been locked out of the same opportunities others have taken for granted.

But homeownership remains one of the most powerful wealth-building tools we have. It changes lives. It changes legacies. And when done right, it creates freedom.

That’s why I do what I do. Because this is bigger than buying houses. This is about equity, empowerment, and ownership.
